Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. Great things continue to happen at El Rancho High School. The most important example of this is the continued growth in the scope and rigor of our academic programs. Our API has increased by 40 points over the last two years along with increasing Advanced Placement Scores. Last year, more students took Advanced Placement (AP) classes and took and passed the corresponding examinations than ever before in the history of the school. We recognized 711 graduates at our commencement ceremony in June, one of the largest graduating class in the history of the school. Our athletic programs continue to excel with numerous league championships over the course of the year and several more teams advancing to playoffs, highlighted by our CIF Southern Section Champion Boys Soccer Team.
We have over fourteen Advance Placement courses and over eight honors programs to prepare students for university. We are extremely proud of our AVID program that supports our students and parents in creating a College Going Culture. Our Academic Decathlon Team continues to rank as top competitors each year and have qualified for state competition the last three years. ERHS offers a range of services for Special Education and At-Risk students including Intervention built within the school day.
I encourage all of our students to take-advantage of the new and previously existing opportunities that have been made available to them at El Rancho High School. Many options are available to students through our Honors or Advanced Placement programs as well as our many Career and Technical Education offerings. Our Fine and Performing Arts Department has strong programs in Choir, Band, Drama, Art and Graphic Design. In addition, we field 21 Varsity athletic teams in a variety of different sports and we offer numerous co-curricular programs through ASB Leadership, Journalism, Link Crew, Yearbook and campus clubs. The breadth and depth of the academic and co-curricular offerings that we have at ERHS ensures that all of our students have a number of avenues to enhance their educational experience.
As the principal, I am proud to lead our school in the pursuit of new accomplishments. Together, we have continued our commitment to a rigorous and relevant educational experience for every student that promotes meaningful connections and provides comprehensive support. I look forward to another exciting year of new accomplishments as we continue to pursue our districts mission to achieve & maintain excellence in providing a comprehensive education for all students.
I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that we will experience during the 2011-12 school-year and the growth that they will inspire in our students. Each of our students has much to gain, and much to offer, at El Rancho High School this year. I know that this year will prove once again that great things continue to happen at El Rancho High School.
